Getting here may have been a big step- let's take the next one together.
Hello and welcome! My name is Alex, and my pronouns are she/her, though I am also comfortable with they/them.
I live on the unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish people, including the Malahat, Quw’utsun, and WSANEC nations. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of calling this beautiful land my home.
You’re meeting me as a counselling student currently pursuing a Master of Counselling degree from City University. However, my journey in the realm of work and education spans various roles. I’ve been a Registered Massage Therapist since 2012, completed an advanced diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in 2019, and earned a Bachelor of Health Science degree in 2021.
Outside of work and school, I’m a partner to my amazing nonbinary partner, a world-traveler with a special love for Japan, a dog-mum to the best dog ever, a language learner, a dancer, an amateur gardener, and so much more.
My lived experiences and intersecting identities have given me both privilege and non-privilege, which I continually reflect on when connecting with people from all walks of life. As a non-religious, Canadian-born Caucasian person, I hold dominant cultural identities in areas such as religion, Indigenous heritage, and national origin. As a gay woman, I also navigate non-dominant identities and challenges related to sexual orientation and gender. My journey includes lived experiences as a sex worker, a traumatic brain injury survivor, and an unhoused youth. These experiences fuel my passion for destigmatizing these identities on both individual and societal levels. While I will never assume that my experiences mirror yours, I hope it’s helpful to know that I may share some common ground with you. I will meet you with openness, understanding, empathy, and genuine curiosity.
I am eager to work with individuals of all identities, ages, and concerns. My particular interests lie in areas of sex, sexuality, identity, gender identity, LGBTQ2S+ persons, trauma, chronic pain, current and former sex workers, and alternative relationship models, including polyamory and BDSM/kink.
I pride myself on providing client-centered care and find nothing more rewarding than seeing clients become autonomous in their health care journey. I look forward to fostering a therapeutic environment where we can work together as partners in the pursuit of your unique goals.
