Our Team

We are a group of queer and actively-allied counsellors and interns offering anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, affirming support both in person in Victoria, BC and virtually across Canada. Our clinical team is a group of qualified individuals with a variety of designations. We also have Counselling Interns that are under supervision of our clinical team and offer sliding scale counselling options. Take some time to get to know each of us below.

We acknowledge that we are uninvited settlers on traditional unceded land. Specifically our office is on the land of the Coast Salish Territory - including the Lekwungen (Esquimalt and Songhees), Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke, and W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Malahat, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) nations. We continue to be committed to working towards decolonizing our individual and group practice as wellness providers.

Counselling Interns

All of our counselling interns have completed academic requirements of their degrees in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Child and Youth Care or a comparable field of study. They are supervised under one of our registered clinical team to complete their required counselling experience to obtain their degrees and will see a range of clients within their scope of practice. Each intern will come to practice with difference prior professional and educational experience that will inform who they will be working with at Burn Bright Counselling. Interns offer sliding scale session for the duration of their placements (which vary).

As a part of the interns’ degree requirements and their clinical supervision, they will be receiving direct feedback from their supervisor during their internship. In order to provide the highest quality of feedback and as per degree requirements, interns are required to record (video or audio) some of their sessions. These recordings are only viewed by the Intern and their Clinical Supervisor. All recordings are stored and kept within privacy laws and are destroyed after supervision is complete. You are not required to agree to having your sessions recorded and are able to revoked your consent at any time during your therapeutic support.

Clinic Management

  • Kash Gushulak (he/him)

    CLINIC MANAGER

Virtual Friends Of Our Team

  • Logan (he/him)

Logan is Mady’s furry pal. Named after Wolverine, this extra sweet guy spends his day napping, cuddling and trying to steal snacks. He loves to play fetch and will always reach out to touch you gently with his paws.

  • Bright Eyes (she/her)

Bright Eyes is Mady’s furry pal. Nicknamed BE for short, this sweet and friendly gal is always looking to make new friends. She spends her days napping in her favourite chair, and loves being outside watching the birds.

  • Burt (he/him)

Burt is Danielle’s lil grey guy. He’s an expert at boundaries, side eye, and morning wake up calls. He's only got two sound settings: squeak or scream. So if he has something to say - you’ll be sure to hear him. Most times he is happy to be close by but when cuddle mode activates it’s all hands on deck.

  • Hamish (he/him)

Hamish is Danielle’s cuddle buddy. Named after Hamish cows for his fluffy orange fur. If comfort was an olympic game - he’d be a gold medalist. He loves chin scratches, dairy products, and sleeping in sun beams. More of a hindrance than a help with puzzles.

  • Mark (he/him)

If you're in a virtual session with Sarah, there's a good chance you're also in a session with Mark, Sarah's favourite and very reliable fidget toy. Mark is great at honouring confidentiality and is pictured in front of one of Sarah's other children (McGonagall the Philodendron) you might also spot in a session with her.

  • Rocket (he/him)

Meet Rocket, Alex Mayr's ultimate adventure buddy and cuddle champion! Want to hike a mountain? He’s your guy. Need a movie marathon day? Rocket will be under the covers with you faster than you can hit “play.” At 9-years-young, Rocket hails from a proud lineage of half-pug, half-chihuahua parents, and his humans are always on the lookout for a sibling with that perfect mix. Rocket’s hobbies include playing ball (but only if there are treats involved), burrowing under blankets, and soaking up the sun like the little solar panel he is. His dislikes? Walking in the rain (he’s no fan of wet paws), getting his nails trimmed (who is?), and the dreaded sound of doorbells. Rocket’s ultimate dream is a world where his parents never, ever leave his side. And honestly, who could say no to that face?
